The Showroom for the complete range of handmade tiles and ceramic wall art is located on the ground floor of the Wheelhouse at Amber Mill. Conveniently situated at the centre of England in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, close to the Peak District hills. The Studio is easy to find with brown tourist signs pointing the way on nearby roads.

The workshop adjoins the Mill, the heart of the Studio where we create our trademark glazes, unique in the industry.  Visitors are welcome to drop in and see the handmade tiles being created. All of the glazes are on display and you can select your own unique glaze colour combinations and experiment with many different tile mixes to achieve just the right blend for your tile project.                      

There is plenty of parking space, a relaxing atmosphere and a panoply of stunning glazes for you to see. It all makes a trip to the Mill a great day out. See our contact page for details, times and map. 

The home of Royce Wood Studio is the historic Wheelhouse of Amber Mill, located at the aptly name hamlet of Toadhole Furnace. The mellow sandstone walls of the old cotton Mill provides the perfect setting and the inspiration to create our range of beautifully glazed ceramics.

 It was one of several cotton mills along the River Amber which in turn flows into the River Derwent with its own historic mills established by Richard Arkwright and Jeddiah Strutt now forming the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site. Originally built in 1794 the Amber Mill complex was once home to the famous Victorian engineer Sir Joseph Whitworth and where he served his five year apprenticeship.
